《老人与海》里提及的The gaff and harpoon

 这是一篇写在豆瓣上的旧日志，现在豆瓣日志实在太难发东西了，一个动态都要审核好久。我准备慢慢把上面的一些自己的文章和收藏的别人的文章搬过来。

 

昨天开始重新听《老人与海》，听到下面文章里提及的那句话，又不太记得The gaff and harpoon到底是什么东西了，于是翻出这篇文章。

 

《老人与海》里的一句话：

It made the boy sad to see the old man come in each day with his skiff empty and he always went down to help him carry either the coild lines or the gaff and harpoon and the sail that was furled around the mast.

词典里gaff和harpoon都有鱼叉的意思，我留意到写的是the gaff and harpoon, harppn前并没有定冠词the，那么gaff and harppn应该可以看作一个整体。我完全不知道它们到底是什么东西，便去查了它们的图片，原来是两种不同样子的鱼叉。gaff是弯头的，harpoon是直头的。

今天看到另一句话里，出现了the gaff and the harpoon with its shaft，这次gaff 和harpoon前面都有了the，把gaff和harpoon看作是两个独立的工具，还补充说明了harpoon是什么具体样子——harpoon后面with its shaft指的是 “带柄的鱼叉”。回头看了看图片，才知道harpoon和它的柄是可以分离的，补充三张图片佐证：

图中这套鱼钩和鱼叉都可以装在一个柄上！我还查到最左边这个，叫做flying harpoon。

一个卖渔具的网站上，查到这个产品：

产品名称写的是：Telescoping Harpoon with Shaft & Dart 可伸缩鱼叉，带柄和镖。

这样就更清楚了，总结一下：

鱼叉有两种头，一种弯头叫gaff，一种直头叫harpoon，它们常被作为一套工具 the gaff and harpoon kit。鱼叉的柄可以单独取下，有些柄还做成可伸缩的。弯头和直头的镖都可以固定或用绳索连接在柄上，用绳索连接的镖有些还可以弹射出去。
